FAQ’s

Where is your office located?

1616 W. Shaw Ave., Suite D1 Fresno, CA 93711

2 minutes/0.9 miles West of the Fig Garden Shopping Center

1 minute East of Dutch Bros. Coffee (in case you need a quick ‘pick me up’)

What are your office hours?

My schedule varies. Sessions are by appointment only, so there’s flexibility in scheduling. I’m available during the week only. I do not schedule weekend appointments.

How long are sessions?

Sessions are 50 minutes.

How do I set up my initial appointment?

Call me. If I miss your call, I do my best to return your call or inquiry before the end of the day. Once I get you on the phone, we discuss a few details, and I look for openings in my schedule. I do my very best to accommodate your schedule as well.

What is your cancellation policy?

Clients can cancel or reschedule an appointment anytime, if they provide 24-hour notice. If you cancel an appointment with less than 24-hour notice, or fail to show up, you will be charged for the time that was reserved for your appointment.

This cancellation policy is important for my private practice. I see a limited number of clients each day, so I can give each client the focus and attention they deserve. I reserve for you, and all my clients, a full hour of my time for the session and clinical notes. If a client cancels less than a full 24-hours in advance, it is extremely difficult to fill that time slot on short notice.

What population and age do you work with?

I work with men and women, singles and couples, ages 18 and over.

What do you do in session?

Together we work on your identified problems or challenges. I gather all that information during the first scheduled appointment. I develop what is called a “Treatment Plan,” and together we discuss your goals for therapy. What you would like to work on. Together we work toward these goals. The treatment plan goals you make initially aren’t set in stone. Much like you, they’re unique, and can change as you accomplish or change your goals.

Do your clients receive assignments to work on between sessions?

This depends on the client. It varies.

I do ask you to practice the coping skills we discussed in session. This is how we find out what works for you and what doesn’t. Sometimes I’ll give a client an informative handout, or questionnaire to look over and/or fill out. I don’t believe in working harder than the client.

I encourage all my clients to do their part between sessions. Anyone can come into session, just to keep the seat warm, but that isn’t going to get you any closer to the results you want.

What modalities do you use when working with clients?

I use a powerful combination of coping skills, mindfulness, behavior modification, and emotional wounds (trauma) work.

What is your professional training and experience?

I have a broad range of interest spanning family and individual work with children, adolescents, and adults. I’ve spent the past 7 years working as a therapist in a range of environments. This includes working with young people and adults who had experienced some form of trauma and who were displaying behavioral difficulties.

My recent work has included interventions such as counselling, behavior modification, cognitive behavioral therapy/dialectical behavioral therapy, for behavioral health court and severe mental illness clientele. I’ve spent the past 3 years in private practice and trained in EMDR (trauma work).

I engage in continual education, training, and supervision as part of my continued commitment to providing useful and best practice service to my clients. My therapeutic approaches include, but are not limited to, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Art, Attachment, Play Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), and a variety of Family Therapy approaches.

What else does a client need to know to make the most out of working with you?

My experience has seen me work with both adults and children of varying ages and cultural backgrounds, presenting with a diverse range of complaints and conditions. I can communicate effectively and adapt my style and techniques according to individual needs and personalities. I enjoy the challenges of working with different people and find the work incredibly rewarding.

With all the training, education, experience and commitment to providing the best services to my clients, it doesn’t mean a thing if a client isn’t doing their part. You get out of it, what you put into it.

Is therapy like what I see on TV? Do I lay down on a couch while you take notes and smoke a big tobacco pipe?

Sadly, no. I never acquired a tasted for tobacco. Plus, I have a slight case of asthma, so me and smoke just don’t mix. I know, it’s a bummer. Sorry to disappoint.

As for the lying down, go for it. I have a couch, most people prefer to sit, but I’m all about shakin’ things up!

Do you give me answers to all my questions? How to live? What to do?

No. Unfortunately that last time I was given that much power it didn’t end well.

Oh well! You live and learn.

How fast can you fix me?

Depends. Do you come with instructions? I can try YouTube-ing it?

Will you look me up on Facebook?

Absolutely.

Can I look you up on Facebook?

As long as you don’t judge me for my poor choices. I was young once.

Do you ever just zone out?

What do you really think about your clients?

Huh? What? I’m sorry… I think I just zoned out.
